Today was CPR and First Aid training for The New Job. The day was as normal as you could expect considering that we had all been up since the crack of dawn and were locked up in a room full of “manikins.” There was an older woman in the class who wasn’t a part of our group and she made the day highly entertaining. We were discussing the Heimlich Maneuver and she wanted to know if it would be okay for her to place a pillow between her hands and the victim (umm…why?). Our instructor kindly explained why that wouldn’t work (as he had about her past 17 random suggestions) and that her hands would need to be focused on performing the life-saving technique — she wouldn’t have time grab the pillow and position it even if it were helpful.
And then she popped off with this gem.
“You would be surprised the things I can do with my feet.”

2. When couples say, “We’re pregnant.” No, you are not. The lady is pregnant. It’s annoying when the woman says it, but it disgusts me when the man says it. Doesn’t bother me if you say, “We’re going to have a baby” because after the baby is born you will both “have” a baby. The man never was, nor will he ever be “pregnant.” 3. Slow sidewalk walkers who don’t scoot over so you can pass. 4. Professors who think that their class is the only class a student is taking. Please. 5. The route Gilmore Girls took last season and the way things are looking right now. 6. People who don’t wash out the sink after doing whatever they do (brush teeth, shaving, etc). 7. Suitemates who secretly sample everything you have in the shower…EVERY TIME THEY SHOWER. 8. Unbearably hot weather. 9. When people make plans and don’t keep them. 10. People who don’t return calls. 11. People who don’t answer their cell phone. You bought a cell phone so you can answer it wherever you are. And I don’t mean when you are in class, but repeatedly not answering. (For the record, I don’t mean people who don’t want to talk to me, just ones who think it’s fun to have their phones off…all the time.) 12. Guys who can’t take a hint. 13. Guys who contact me whenever they are having problems with their girlfriends and NOT to get my advice. Come on. That’s not cool. |

“Hey, Miss…Miss…uggghhh…what is your name?”
This is Katie, our new cat. She lives with Mom and Dad so I don’t get to see her very often which is sad. She is adorable and one of the sweetest creatures I’ve known. Her interests include climbing pine trees and air-conditioning.

1. Given a choice, and imagining that money and time were no object, would you rather cook dinner, eat out or order in?
Cook. It’s so much more fun.
2. What is the most elaborate meal you’ve ever prepared yourself or purchased at a restaurant?
Nothing really stands out. I never order anything elaborate at a restaurant, and all my cooking takes a pretty decent amount of time…I don’t know. I’ll work on finding something elaborate to cook.
3. What food do you find yourself making and/or eating way too much?
I am forevermore boiling/baking/grilling artichokes. They are one of my favorites. At a young age I figured out it was “better” to enjoy things that nobody else in my family liked so that when my mom bought it I had it all to myself. This explains why I have been about fifteen pounds overweight most of my life. Except when I had pneumonia. What a great way to lose weight.
4. What was your most disastrous cooking/eating out experience?
Cooking, can’t recall. Eating out…oh boy. Once we ate at the Olive Garden and it took over an hour to get our food. When they brought it out my dad told us not to touch it and he had a word with the manager. There was a problem in the kitchen which was obvious (and to top it all off my brother found something metal in his food), but they tried to blame it on the waiter. The kid was beside himself trying to help us out, the manager didn’t charge us, but I’m pretty sure the waiter was about to get fired after we left. So Dad tipped him well. Poor guy. He didn’t do anything wrong.
5. Would you rather cook for someone else or have them cook for you?
Cook for someone else. Why let them have all the fun?
As some of you may know I am newly employed. It is a great change of pace and one that I have been praying would happen for over a year now. I love my work and couldn’t imagine being any happier with a job. It’s at a daycare/pre-school and no, I won’t be saying the name because a) I don’t want you to stalk me (it’s happened) and b) I don’t want to get dooced. You know what I’m saying.
Along with this new job comes a few hazards, namely the 45-60 diseases I was told to expect to be exposed to. Sweet. I started work on September 6 and since then I have already been sick twice. Illness #1 was a bit more mysterious — body aches, fever — I just felt bad and ran a fever for about thirty-six hours. No big deal. Illness #2…that is a different story. I started feeling something Sunday night. My eye was swollen, red, and itchy. I assumed it was pink eye.
Wrong.
For the next twenty-four hours my eye (and later, eyes) burned and itched like crazy. That was Monday. Tuesday I started coughing a little. That night was Heather’s birthday dinner and it was great, but as we sat there I could feel my throat getting tighter and my sinuses start to clog up and hurt. A few people came back to my house to watch a few episodes of The Office and by the time they all left, I knew it was time for some Nyquil (which I told Aaryn I didn’t have, but I was wrong).
Got some quality sleep out of that and woke up the next morning to head off to my Pilates class. In hindsight, most definitely not the best idea. By the end of class my head was throbbing and my eyes were burning and I thought I was going to cough up a lung. Went to work where I had as little contact as possible with the children. One thing I have found out about teaching kids and being a caregiver is that you have to grin and bear it. And not cough your Germ Monsters on them. Work didn’t last as long as usual and by the time I got back to the house I was completely exhausted. Collapsed on the couch but could not manage to get any sleep. Not being able to breathe sometimes makes that process a little less than enjoyable. I missed my ministry team meeting last night and had a really hard time getting to sleep. I stayed up later than a sick person should, but was finally able to get a little rest with the help of another dose of Nyquil.
Now it’s Thursday, my head still hurts, I still have a slight fever with chills, and I go from being exhausted to being completely incapable of finding sleep…but I am a little better. Tonight is Paradigm with the BSU (Baptist Student Union at OU for those of you who haven’t been reading very long), but I don’t think I’m going to make it. This is an act of love for my brothers and sisters there. Listen folks, you don’t want this.

I cannot come up with the words right now, so I’m just going to quote someone…
There’s simple theft, highway robbery, grand theft, and then there’s what happened at the end of the Oregon vs. Oklahoma game a few minutes ago. – Run Up The Score
Exactly.
If you go here by clicking on a link to Smosey.com, please note that my domain has changed. This blog is now located at MissWisabus.com, so if you have me linked somewhere I would really appreciate you updating your link
More on why things are changing later. Like, when I have all my files safely on DreamHost.
Wow. I got nominated for “Best Blog Layout” and I will be honest and say, “That’s strange.” But also flattering, so thank you. If you are from Oklahoma and want to vote for me, feel free.
(I haven’t been posting because I’m waiting on a host change to go through…tick-tock, tick-tock. Maybe it’ll be soon.)
