Woo! Oklahoma City is getting the Sonics!
NEW YORK — Welcome to the big leagues, Oklahoma City.
With a 28-2 vote of owners on Friday, the NBA added Oklahoma City to the roster of major league cities, officially approving the relocation of the SuperSonics.
Legal wrangling over the Sonics’ lease will still determine when the team gets to town, but the vote puts the seal of approval on Oklahoma City’s ascendance from temporary relocation home of the Hornets to landing spot for the Sonics.
The team could be in Oklahoma City as soon as this fall or as late as after the end of the 2009-10 season.
Crabtown in OKC is hosting a watch party for the premiere of season 4 of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. King crab dinner for $19.99 on April 15. Yum yum.
“I’ll tell you about my ideal dinner party — John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, Osama bin Laden, John Wayne Gacy, and Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. ‘Oh, hey guys. Welcome to my home. Oh, here comes the waiter with the soup. Hope you guys are hungry.’ Meanwhile, the waiter subtly nods at me, but I don’t acknowledge him. But I know that he’s an assassin because I trained him. BOOM. Two minutes later — five dead psychopaths at my dining room table. All that’s left to do is dispose of the bodies and collect the reward. It’s almost too easy.” - Dwight Schrute
The Chef is taking a break this week, so I got my questions from Stone Girl.

What is your favorite vacation spot in the United States? A lot of people are going to think this is sad, but I love Branson, MO. I just do. I like being around older folks, things going at a slower pace, and Silver Dollar City. People let you in during the heavy traffic and are just all around nicer than what you’ll find most places. For beauty, I really like the Rockies and the countryside of Virginia.

If someone else (friend, co-worker, family) brings up a religious or political topic, how likely are you to join the conversation, on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 = not likely, 10=very likely). If there is going to be a disagreement, 2. If I know pretty much where the person stands and it’s not too far from where I am, 10. I’ll talk politics (with my limited knowledge) all day with someone who isn’t going to turn it into a shouting match, e.g. Rosie O’Donnell.

What song do you listen to when you feel very sad? I’m not sad very often anymore. However, when I was in high school and bummed out about a boy or some kinda junk like that, I’d listen to Nina Gordon sing “The End of the World” over and over. How’s that for depressing? Let me think, I did have some sad times in college…okay, I just checked my last.fm charts for the spring of 2005 (aka, the semester that Liz could have flunked out of school - but didn’t - because she was always bawling over the last stupid thing some jerkface said or did. We’re talking, wearing a bathrobe, sad music on, sitting on my bed with a box of Kleenex. It was NOT pretty.) and it’s pretty telling. Let’s just go ahead and make a soundtrack for the most depressing point in my life (albeit a very dumb reason to be depressed. Scumbag.).

Someone you really admire is coming over for a home-cooked dinner. What do you serve him/her? Hmm. I can’t think of anything that I am super impressive at cooking (Kevin and my friends like it, that’s good enough for me), but to give them a little taste of something that I enjoy, I’d make my mom’s Chicken Cheese Spaghetti. Oh, I love it.

If the only form of transportation left in the world is by animal (horse, mule, camel, etc), where would you live? I move back down to Pernell, OK and live the way my great-grandparents did. Get myself a little house, plant a garden, grow flowers, and get a few cats for the barn.
April 8th
11:00 am - Find really cool temp job opening with company I have been interested in for some time while randomly visiting a website to read list of nominees for “Oklahoma’s Rock Song.”
12:31 pm - E-mail cover letter and resume to said company.
3:57 pm - Get word back from company saying they need to make a decision soon. They ask me to come in for an interview the next day.
April 9th
8:53 am - Show up for 9 am interview to avoid severe storms expected later in the day.
9:33 am - Am finished with what I feel like was a good interview.
9:45 am - Take wrong turn, end up in north OKC.
9:50 am - Call Dad. He tells me what I need to do to get back home. Which I was about to do anyway, but that’s beside the point. Thank you, Dad.
10:21 am - Arrive home. Let puppy out to take a tinkle before it starts to rain.
10:34 am - Receive e-mail OFFERING ME THE JOB!
Thank you, Lord, for this wonderful opportunity! It’s such a blessing. I just wanted to let you all know what’s been taking up the past couple of days. The job goes until June 20, but I am hoping that there will be another opening there toward the end of my temp position. Of course, I’m not going to share the details about who I am working for on my blog (because I don’t want to get dooced), but feel free to comment and ask! I’ll gladly tell you about this wonderful company and what they do via e-mail.
So…yay!
My order from Mountain Rose Herbs came in the mail yesterday while I was at class. Of course, when I got home that evening I kept thinking, “I need to check the front porch to see if it’s there.” But I never did and wouldn’t you guess what was waiting for me this morning? Yup.
So I open it up. Here are the delightful things I purchased (for not too much money!):
Organic Catnip Essential Oil (for making insect repellent)
Saw Palmetto Capsules (herb suggested for health issues I’ve been having)
Witch Hazel Extract
2 Wood Incense Holders (made in India with this spectacular design on them)
Douglas Fir Wildcrafted Incense
Jasmine Incense
Never again will a day go by that jasmine incense isn’t burned in my home. This is delightful. And when my mom comes up tomorrow to go to the farmer’s market with me she is totally going to think I’m smoking weed. Cause that’s the only reason to burn incense, ya know.

So, I’m low-carbing, right? It’s changed my life. Complete 180. I couldn’t have imagined how much better I would feel, the energy I would have (Though, I could definitely handle requiring more sleep than I currently feel like I need. The energy I have between 10pm and 2am alone may be enough to raise Dr. Atkins from the dead. Will look into this.), and how good bacon can taste. Turkey bacon. I’m still not sold on the real stuff. But man, it’s not bad living. Steak, seafood, baloney (I HAVE VERY WEIRD TASTE. Or none.), and HEAVY CREAM. Oh, heavy cream, my love. I’m really starting to wonder if clouds are perhaps angel poop, which is, in reality, whipped heavy cream.* I don’t believe in the space program, so do you think we could get someone at NASA on that one? Maybe the lady with the adult diapers? Let me know what you think.
I’ve been trying out lower carb options that various companies have to offer. It’s worth noting that some of them are really bad for you and not actually that good for a low-carb diet. There is this website I’ve found where I bought some low-carb ketchup (which I later found out is available at Wal-Mart for half the price — way to go, Liz), milled flax seed, and high protein low-carb chocolate pudding. Had no idea how the stuff would taste, but at the time that I bought this I hadn’t had good tasting chocolate in a while. And it turns out I really like chocolate, who knew. So I buy it, kinda forget about it, and then it comes in the mail yesterday. I was looking around at the website that I bought it from and realized that it was recommended for people who have undergone gastric bypass surgery. And it’s listed in the “Gastric Bypass Foods” section of their website. That is fine and dandy, because I know that there is a need for foods that are appropriate for that diet (no idea what your body goes through after that), I am just not sure if I can stomach what my mind now knows as “gastric bypass pudding.” It reminds of “Katrina punch” if you know what I mean.
*Sorry, after reading that a second time I realized how nasty it was. But I’m leaving it there. Because I keep it real. Umm, yeah.
Or the story of how Sarah Jessica Parker got on Paul Davidson’s nerves.
These are part of a low-carb diet, right? Because they look absolutely scrumptious.

Something about the soundtrack to Two for the Road makes me really productive. Good, because that’s certainly what I need right now.
