Thirteen Song That Remind Me of My Childhood
1. Hangin’ In - Tanya Tucker
2. Gonna Take A Lot of River - The Oak Ridge Boys
3. God Blessed Texas - Little Texas — Warning: There are scantily clad women in this video. Forget Barbie, it’s the girls in bikinis in this video that messed up my body image…
4. Ships That Don’t Come In - Joe Diffie — I remember, back when we were after Saddam the first time, how people would call in and request this song for fallen soldiers. I still get goosebumps and want to cry just thinking about it. Seems appropriate again.
5. I’ll Make Love To You - Boyz II Men — Let me be upfront and tell you that this was my favorite song in 5th grade and I had no idea what it was about. And now it makes me laugh to think about how often I listened to this song.
6. Daddy’s Money - Ricochet
7. Remember Me This Way - Jordan Hill
8. Something to Talk About - Bonnie Raitt
9. Is There Life Out There - Reba McEntire
10. Boot Scootin’ Boogie - Brooks & Dunn
11. What’s It To You - Clay Walker
12. Breakout - Swing Out Sister
13. Come On Eileen - Dexy’s Midnight Runners

You can never go wrong with Bonnie Raitt. Happy TT.
Gosh… I feel fairly stupid as I don’t know most of these songs. The sad thing is that I recognize Dexy’s Midnight runners. (Shaking my head) Now how pathetic is that?
Happy TT!
“Breakout” is one of my favorite songs. “Twilight World” is another good tune by Swing Out Sister.
I still stop and listen to your #5 myself!! Awesome song.
Hope you can come by and have a bit of fun with me for my T-13 this week.
Something to Talk About is a favorite of mine! Great list. You brought back lots of memories.
Of Course I love 3 and 10
Boy, do I feel old. I stopped keeping up with pop culture a long time ago. Great idea to include the videos for each of the songs!
I published my first T-13 today. Hope you can stop by.
Ooh, we grew up on different radio stations, that’s for sure!
Yep, you must not be that old if you remember those growing up…awwww yes, 23…oh to be young again. Happy TT:)
The only one I really know is Dexys. Ah well. happy TT.
Very fun list! I knew almost all of those songs but “I’ll Make Love to You” is a cherished song from my early teen years! I kissed a boy on the check to that song once!
That was a good idea for a 13 list. I remember Something to Talk About from my childhood, too - in the 80’s.
I just found out that Something to Talk About was released in 1991. I was 21. So, I guess that really wasn’t my childhood.
lol, we DID grow up on the same radio stations! cheers to cheesy midnineties nashville country.
I’ll be sing Boot Scooting Boogie all day now! Ha!
I used to love Breakout by Swing Out Sister - I still have the record! Nice list, most of these I hadn’t heard of. Will check ‘em out.
omg! Total flashback!
Ha, I know what you mean about loving songs as a kid and having no idea what they were talking about. I loved Angel in the Centerfold and it wasn’t until I was older that I realized what the song was talking about. As a kid, I was just too caught up in the NaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNaNa’s to care what the lyrics were!
Boy, did that ever bring back memories! I love “Come on Eileen”!
Stop by and visit my TT when you have a moment.
i’ve only even heard of two of those. boyz II men something was the first cd i ever bought. oh, the shame.
Sadly, I recognize most of those. Fun list, happy TT!
Wow, that was a trip back in time for sure. I teared up watching the Reba video “Is there life out there?”
Of course, the quality was downright horrid but their attempt at a story was pretty good.
Come on Eileen! And Breakout! I haven’t thought about those songs in years. Now they are stuck in my head.
Love it!! I was the same way with #5! Ha!! And for some reason that song of Reba’s get stuck in my head so often! Weird…Great list!
Ah the Oak Ridge Boys….we were listening to them on 8-track before we got a fancy car with a cassette player. Them and the Gatlin Brothers.
Oh girl! When the video to “Break Out” came on, life stopped. I LOVED that song! I’m SO downloading it right now. (I tend to do much downloading after reading your blog….)
And “Is There Life Out There” was my life last year when I was in school. I cried many a night over algebra and this song.
(Btw, I was at the hospital the day your sent out the call for a mp3 converter, but once I got home and checked mine doesn’t convert from the format you needed. Just know I wanted to help!)
