I have a friend visiting from New York in a couple of weeks. Already have a number of things planned out (Pops!, Chickasaw Recreation Area, Oklahoma City Memorial, OU, etc.), but I was wondering if any of you might suggest something? Thanks!
The Capitol is nice. I have a friend who is a tour guide. The canal at night (late, late at night so the temp is tolerable). Underground shopping downtown. The Warren. Find a friend who’s got Tinker access. There’s always the Edmond Post Office Massacre statue (j/k). MARDEL. Take her out west of town one night for a sunset on the plains (aim for cinnamon rolls at the Cherokee Trading Post on the way back) or at Lake Hefner. Cowboy hat shopping at Tener’s in Stockyard City. Paseo, Penn Square Mall. Visit Lake Murray for one night (they have cheap cabins and horse rides) and take the “scenic” state highway that parallels I-35 on the way back stopping for antiques by Turner Falls. Life Church. Of course, I personally think food is something we do well — Braum’s, Sonic, Cattlemen’s, Abuelo’s or Alfredo’s, Royal Bavaria, Eischen’s. okccvb.org and travelok.com might have other ideas…
Oh, here comes more — Cruise Route 66. When you visit the Memorial and the Cherokee Trading Post, don’t forget to point out that Orlando Bloom stood here — he shot “Elizabethtown” scenes here. Do antiques and lunch at Granny Had One in Guthrie. For a great view, take an elevator to the top — see if the Petroleum Club or the Beacon Club will let you peek out the windows between meals.
I gotta put my two cents in here. If your friend is female, she’ll love Coco Flow http://www.cocoflow.com/

Also check out the free Sunday Twilight Concerts at the Myriad Botanical Gardens from 7-8:30pm through Aug 24th http://www.artscouncilokc.com
The OKC museum, or Sam Noble Museum in Norman, go shopping at The French Cowgirl on Western, then grab some of the best brick oven pizza at The Wedge. Or take her for some real Oklahoma barbecue at Leo’s BBQ http://www.leosbbq.com/
