A-ha! I knew I was right about this (Kevin, remember me pointing this out to you?).
This commercial annoys me to no end. It’s the Multi Grain Cheerios “Shut up, Steve” commercial. And why does it annoy me? Because it’s clear as you’re watching that the voices have been dubbed and that the actors are British. I mean, look at them. They look British. The filming (forgive me for not knowing the technical term) looks British. And most obviously–watch the way their mouths move. That’s what first tipped me off. I should have gone into linguistics since that’s so interesting to me, but see? American mouths do not move in that way when they speak.
And now I have evidence. Thank you, YouTube!
The American version you’ve probably been seeing:
Part of the original British commercial:

I knew there was something odd about that commercial, but I never took the time to figure out why.
i’ve never seen the american version.. just the brit version. tis what they show in canada
I’m from Canada and have seen both versions on tv. But I think both are dubbed. On a bigger tv it’s easy to see that the British one is out of sync as well.
The commercial as shown in Canada has the characters with British accents. I don’t know what all the hoopla is about. Any guy who has been married for any length of time knows that they’ll be misinterpreted, especially when dealing with women and weight.
