Heads or Tails - Week #40

May 27, 2008 Author: Elizabeth | Filed under: Daily, Meme

Join in the fun!

TAILS! This week’s theme is Tell about your job. This is my third week!

I currently have a temp job as a receptionist for a really awesome company. The work is fun, the coworkers are the sweetest I’ve encountered, and I’ve been paid a lot less for WAY worse work (see: wiping excrement from miniature bottoms).

While I don’t really feel it would be appropriate for me to go into the details, I will tell you that right now I am working on a project (Columbine) that is by far the most emotionally taxing thing I have ever done. I am a terribly empathetic person and that doesn’t make it any easier. As I go through this articles, I am face-to-face with the victims, the killers, the families. It is heartbreaking. The first day I started working on it, I can’t tell you how many times I had to stop and compose myself. It is powerful. I cannot wait for this film to be released.

In the future I will probably write more about the impact that the Columbine massacre had on me — the impact I didn’t realize it had until nearly 10 years later. Now that I am able to look back and see the child that I was then, the path that I was on, the way I dealt with emotions…it puts a different spin on things. There are things we’ll never understand, but my, what clarity the years bring.

So very sad.

An open letter to The Lost Ogle:

Clark, Patrick, and Tony,

Well, guys…I don’t know what to say. It’s not like I won, but you posted a link to my blog, so in a way I did. Thank you for making my stat counter soar higher than the day GEORGE! declared his love for me. Truly a special day.

I guess that being considered in the running for one day of your Hot Girl a Day in the Month of May is…better than being on your list of top Oklahoma embarrassments and for that, I thank you. I’ll do my best to stay off the latter list.

I’m sure most people would respond to something like this in the following way, or at least something that closely resembles it:

However, that was not my response upon seeing the post. I’m just glad that I had my wits about me at the time and was able to capture this very special moment, 5:25 am Friday morning, when I read your post and saw my name beside such wonders as Jenni Carlson and Maggie Carlo:

Friday’s Feast #13

May 23, 2008 Author: Elizabeth | Filed under: Daily, Friday's Feast, Meme

Appetizer
Wii, Playstation or XBox? XBox — only because I am totally a nerd and like to play The Elder Scrolls. I know. It was one of the first things I admitted to Kevin when we started dating. It’s good to get things like that out in the open.

Soup
Would you ever go skydiving? Possibly. If you gave me equine tranquilizers beforehand.

Salad
Name a sequel that you think is better than the original movie. Anne of Avonlea (or Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel, depending on your location), but I will say that I am probably biased because it’s the first movie I can remember seeing at around age 2. My mom was a fan. And of course at that point I hadn’t read the books, so I didn’t know about the changes.

Main Course
Share your most wonderful birthday celebration. Every birthday since I started college has been great. Why? We celebrate for a week. It’s called Liz-a-palooza and it’s fantastic. A couple of years ago we celebrated at Chili’s and had our own version of the “Dundies” — which I think we called the “Lizzies” (don’t remember. I happened to have a very bad cold/cough at the time and was on a lot of drugs and had no voice. But it was my birthday!). Everyone got a customized trophy with an award picked especially for them.

Dessert
If you dare, post a picture of yourself making a silly face.

sitting here, bugging my mom.

Thank you for loving me.

I haven’t spoken about this on here yet. Everyone outside of the internet knows, I think. I’ll come back someday and tell you all. Right now, thinking about it, I’m sad. Most of the time I’m good. What happened had to happen.

Until I can actually talk about that, I’ll leave you with this. I’m not sure that a human being can watch this without crying. Especially if you are a dog lover. I’ll tell you, when I was going through all the stuff with Lulu (well, after) this really helped me…let go? Get by? Because I gave her all I knew to give her. Was she properly socialized at a young age? Probably not. Should she have been in the country, on a farm, instead of a (very large) backyard in a town? Probably so. But I quit blaming myself a while back and quit letting other people make me feel awful.

Watch.

I sure do miss you.

Okay, you may think this is weak, but I’m serious! I’m going to interview my boyfriend for my blog. And I want your questions. All I ask is that you keep it tasteful! One question per person, please! Unless you really really need to ask another.

Thirteen Questions for Kevin
1. Do you love dogs?
2. What is your Myers Briggs Type?
3. What are Elizabeth’s traits that you admire most and why?
4. What was the very first thing that attracted you to Elizabeth?
5. Before you went, did you ever think you’d stay in Oklahoma after graduating?
6. What is one thing you have been afraid of and have had to overcome? How did you overcome it? And what was the result?
7. What passage of scripture have you taken most encouragement from and why?
8. What would you consider to be the most pinnacle moment in your Christian walk? Has something happened that really changed the way that you walk with the Lord?

Liveblogging the Final Performances on American Idol

7:16 - David Cook has got to win this.
7:18 - I give David the Lesser 5 years tops before he steps out of the closet.
7:22 - That’s it, cry pretty boy. Your time is almost up.
7:31 - Not very impressed with that number, Cookerino.
7:51 - Most boring liveblog ever. Sorry. My boyfriend is cooking.
7:57 - What we have to realize is that Simon is saying things to try and sway voters — either FROM voting (because “obviously” it’s going to turn out one way, so your vote doesn’t count anyway) or TO vote a certain way. Archuleta sounds like he has a mouth full of spit. Always has.
8:00 - To quote Kevin, “If Archuleta wins, we’ll know Satan had a hand in it.” Some of you will agree, I’m sure.

Heads or Tails - Week #39

Join in the fun!

HEADS or TAILS! This week’s theme is peace or piece. This is my second week!

Names meaning “peace” that I like:
1. Chessa (F, Slavic)
2. Eron (M, Hebrew)
3. Hume (M, English)
4. Noe (U, French) - Would look nice along with my ancestor, Helloe ;)
5. Salome (F, Hebrew)
6. Winifred (F, Celtic/Gaelic)

There weren’t nearly as many names meaning “peace” as I thought there would be (well, not so many that I liked), so on a whim I looked up “piece” to see what might be there. I found something that might be valuable to my brother, Kyle, someday.

Kylene (F, Celtic/Gaelic) - Little Piece Of Land

So then I looked up “peas” and all I got was Nili.

Have a great Tuesday!

Lost - “There’s No Place Like Home,” pt. 1

May 16, 2008 Author: Elizabeth | Filed under: Daily, TV

I’m just going to hit the high points because it’s early and I’m not very awake.

✈So, the thing on Keamy’s arm is hooked to C-4. Duh. A lot of podcasts were speculating what it was. It seemed pretty obvious to me. I am very, very scared that Desmond is going to end up like Artz soon.

✈I can’t wait to find out WHY their off-island story is what it is. Seems like they have a good reason to keep things quiet, but I just can’t figure out what it is right now.

✈I hate one of the pieces of music they played last night. I believe it’s “Hollywood & Vines.” Basically, their “trekking” music. Eh.

✈Thank goodness, Jack knows that Claire is his sister. I was so worried he’d never find out. And now all those podcast arguments from “Something Nice Back Home” regarding whether or not he DID know when he made the comment about Kate not being related to Aaron seem so ridiculous.

✈Keamy. Not a fan. He does look like some of my relatives though. I need to post a picture side-by-side.

✈Way to go, Sun! Oooh…she is one crafty broad. Yeah, Mr. Paik, you had better sit down. Wowee. Proud of her.

✈Kate needs to do something with her hair.

I may come back with more points later. Really great episode. I am really interested in starting a podcast or at least calling in more on established ones. Anyone interested in starting one? Maybe an Okie one? Let’s talk.
